Policy Presentations at the UN

September 2, 2018

Three members of PPC leadership - Chair and Managing Partner "Mark" Min Seong Kim and Senior External Consultants Ji Eun Chae and Ji Su Kim - were selected as the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) South Korea College Leaders this summer. Selected from a competitive application pool, the three members had the honor of presenting policy recommendations to senior UN staff members.

The three members prepared policy research and global call to action on the topic of SDG 16 - Justice and Institutions. The subtopic of their choice was international religious freedom. In addition to a successful presentation to UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs - for which Mark won the outstanding delegate distinction -  the three members had a chance to work with a senior UN staff member and work to realize some of their recommendations.

In addition to the meeting, the three members used their policy experiences that they honed in PPC to provide policy briefings to the UN Permanent Missions from Croatia, Norway, South Korea, Equatorial Guinea, and Guyana. The report that they wrote and submitted in these meetings have been especially well received; some Missions even honored them by sending it to their UN Human Rights Council Missions in Geneva, Ministries of Foreign Affairs back in home, and Ambassadors who sit on UN Security Council (Equatorial Guinea) or Human Rights Council (Croatia and South Korea).

The three senior PPC staff members were enthused  to se that the Missions and appropriate UN stakeholders have also expressed interest at some of their recommendations and will be working with an appropriate UN coordinator to possibly realize them next spring. The PPC leadership will also lead and coordinate a PPC event at the UN in this November as well.
